Pete and Tekewah’s Wedding Day Portraits in Old Gretna

In the beforetimes, I photographed many sweet and simple courthouse elopements. But since the pandemic, courthouse elopements have been stifled. They’re still doing marriage ceremonies in the courthouses, but they are masked affairs with even fewer guests than usual. So an increasingly common request is for me to not capture the ceremony and just do wedding day portraits after. This is what Pete and Takewah wanted. They would say their vows at the Gretna courthouse then meet me down the street at Gretna City Hall where Christmas lights were still twinkling in the trees.

It was an insanely cold January day. Like record lows. Everyone had been dripping their faucets and hiding their plant babies under sheets to keep pipes from bursting and plants from dying, respectively. And what goes best with super cold temps? Super fast winds! So we had to bust this one out really fast to keep the bride and her guests from literally freezing their toes off. I had on two pairs of socks and boots and I couldn’t feel my toes by the time we were done!

Even though we didn’t have long to work together, we thoroughly enjoyed our brief New Orleans Wedding Portrait session! So much so that they plan to have a big party later in the year when gathering is safer and they’d like me to photograph it! These crew was a hoot and I’d be absolutely thrilled to hang with them agan.
