Anthony and Gracie’s magical French Quarter Proposal
Anthony contacted me late last year about helping him plan his Surprise Proposal to Gracie. He had a really great story about a trip they took to New Orleans together a few years ago. They had gone to a Pelicans basketball game and met a magician who was working there to entertain fans before the game. He did a card trick where he had them each write their name on a card and then he shuffled them back into the deck. As he shuffled the cards he told a story about how people no matter what hardships a couple might find in their relationships, the solution is to always find their way through it together. At the end of the trick, he made a card appear that had both of their names written on it- exactly how they’d written them on two different cards! This experience stuck with them and Anthony decided he had to find this magician to be a part of the proposal.
The trouble was, I was out of his budget. It happens sometimes. Hiring the only Proposal Photography Expert in town with a ton of experience often costs a bit more than hiring a normal photographer. So I asked him who the magician was thinking that if it was who I was hoping, I was going to hook him up. When he said “his name was Lucky” I said “well he’s working his magic without even knowing it because he’s a friend so I’ll give you the friends and family rate!”. Anthony was overjoyed- and so was Lucky when I texted him and asked him to be a part of this proposal. He remembered Anthony and Gracie and was over the moon to help me plan their proposal.
We put our heads together and decided that he’d do a card trick where Gracie wrote her name on a card. He would tell them that the trick would only work if they both faced him and didn’t turn around. Then he would transform the card with her name into one that said “turn around” on it. And when she did, Anthony would be waiting on one knee!
When Anthony and Gracie walked up and found Lucky, we told them that we were shooting some promo photos for him. Anthony said “hey, wait. Didn’t we meet you a few years ago at a Pelicans game?”. Lucky pretended to search his memory bank before “remembering” them and saying “Well then I have to do a trick for you guys!”. I had to stand in the street to get the shot but Lucky pulled it off flawlessly. And Gracie was completely surprised when she turned around! And for one last surprise, Anthony and Gracie’s family appeared behind him too! They cried, they hugged, they popped champagne, and then they went back to the hotel for a private magic show Anthony had arranged for everyone with Lucky.
Sometimes my job gives me the opportunity to team up with the best talent New Orleans has to offer. From highly skilled magicians to incredibly talented musicians, florists, bakers, and more- I only call the cream of the crop to help pull off New Orleans Surprise Proposal Photography.
