Aly and Eric: New Orleans Couple's Photography
New Orleans Couples Photography
Aly and Eric have their first ever portrait session at New Orleans City Park
With a blended family of five kids and a brand new bebe on the way, it was high time Aly and Eric treated themselves to a couple’s portrait session. They went back and forth on whether to do a French Quarter or City Park session, ultimately deciding on the trees. While I love a good French Quarter Portrait Session, I’m pretty partial to City Park. It’s just got a lot of versatility and it’s easier to enjoy the space without a lot of extra people around. Well, we can at least make it look that way in the photos!
It had been a busy day for me so when my assistant and I arrived at the park 15 minutes early, I had to scarf down a snack before Aly and Eric arrived. It just so happened to be a sticky blueberry muffin. So when I saw a text from Aly pop up on my watch saying that she was already at the location sitting on a bench, I didn’t respond right away. I wanted to finish eating and clean the sticky off of my hands before handling my phone. I looked up for her and didn’t spot her on any of the benches. I thought maybe she was around the corner of cafe du monde where I couldn’t see her. I finished eating, rinsed my hands, and texted her back. I said that I couldn’t see her and she said “what side of the street are you on?”. Uh oh. I immediately knew they were at the wrong Cafe du Monde.
They hopped in an Uber and sped their way to the park. The Uber took them to the wrong end of the park first for some reason. Aly was stressing but I told her not to worry, we still had plenty of light. Twilight makes for moody portraits anyhow. They got to the park with just enough time to grab a few sunset photos on top of the bridge before going on a sweet little saunter through the park.
Eric reminded me of someone and I couldn’t put my finger on it. He just seemed really familiar even though I definitely had not met him before. I didn’t try to figure it out at the park, though. We were racing against the last bit of daylight before total darkness. The later start actually made for a more chill park- photographers are always crowding that bridge at sunset, especially on a Friday. The only folks we had to contend with was a jazz band practicing right next to the fountain! I mean… free photo session soundtrack ain’t so bad! These two were a lot of fun to work with, we all kept laughing the entire time.
When I was editing, it finally dawned on me why Eric looked familiar- he’s a dead ringer for Nick Offerman! So I texted Aly to tell her this, assuming they’d heard it a thousand times. But nope! She died laughing and said Eric would too. Eric was a bit of a comedian which made the likeness even greater. (Seriously, look up a photo of Nick Offerman with a beard and you’ll totally see it!)
