Kathy and Nelson: New Orleans Engagement Photography
New Orleans Engagement Session in City Park
Kathy and Nelson
I feel like I’ve lived many lives in the short 30 years I’ve walked this Earth. Sometimes those different lives intersect in the best way possible. Enter: Kathy and Nelson.
About 7 years ago, I was working as a bartender at a small bar in New Orleans. It was my first bartending gig to supplement my income while I worked to become a New Orleans Wedding Photography full time. It was off the beaten path and really thrived on its regulars. I met some truly wonderful people while I worked there and have happily kept in touch thanks to the wonders of social media. Kathy and Nelson were two such lovely people I had the good fortune of meeting and staying in touch with. I left bartending behind three years ago to devote myself full-time to telling Love Stories. So when Nelson approached me to capture his, I was really tickled to see those two aspects of my life intersect.
Kathy and Nelson have been together eleven years and they still look at each other like they fell in love yesterday. Spending time with them in New Orleans City Park was really special. Unlike a lot of couples who I joke around and interact with a lot, Kathy and Nelson melted into each other. I would set them loosely in a pose and then they just started chatting giving me loads of genuine expressions to capture. The way she lit up when he whispered in her ear and the way he looked at her showed how very obviously in love they are. It was a sweet afternoon in the park that I feel truly lucky to have photographed.
As a New Orleans Wedding Photographer, I spend a lot of time in City Park. It is absolutely one of my favorite places to shoot. The sun shines through the moss-draped oaks in such an enchanting way. I often feel like I’m not in New Orleans at all while the sun sets inside of the park. Instead, I’m somewhere even more magical than the city itself. I get that feeling when I look at these golden hour portraits of Kathy and Nelson. No filters were needed to get that sun drenched, lens flare effect. Only pure sunset magic! Here are a few of my favorites from their engagement photography session.
