Chase and Hannah: New Orleans Surprise Proposal Photography
New Orleans Surprise Proposal Photography
Chase Proposes to Hannah in New Orleans City Park
One of the fun things about photographing surprise proposals is that they often book last minute. Couples book with me for their wedding photography months in advance. But proposals often book in a much shorter time-frame. Sometimes, this doesn’t work out because someone else booked me further in advance and the date is taken. But a lot of the time I end up with a fun, surprise, mid-week proposal to photograph! This is what happened with Chase and Hannah.
Chase already had the ring. He knew he wanted to propose to Hannah on their road trip from Texas to North Carolina. But he wasn’t sure where or when. Until he hopped online, found me, and knew New Orleans was the perfect place to propose. He loved my images from City Park proposals and knew he wanted to do it there- specifically at Langles Bridge.
The forecast called for rain and with it being on a Thursday, City Park wasn’t likely to be as busy as it has been the last few months. But there was still a chance someone would be occupying Langles Bridge around sunset, mucking up proposal plans. I frequently have to wait my turn for another photographer to finish with the bridge before I can place a couple up there for portraits. So I showed Chase the fountain and he fell in love immediately. So it was decided- he’d propose at the fountain and we’d hit the bridge for portraits after.
I am really glad Chase made that decision because another photographer was on the bridge when he planned to propose. Not only was the bridge occupied with a small family/maternity shoot, but the photographer used it for nearly a full hour! Even after we finished Chase and Hannah’s proposal and used a few other locations for portraits, the photographer was still on the bridge! I asked kindly if we could have a turn and he stayed up there for another ten minutes. We photographers are usually very courteous when sharing spaces like that in the park and it was a really unique situation that we had to wait that long. But the positive of that was that we used a few locations I don’t normally use! I really love the series we did against a lamp post. I found a brightly colored flower to hold in between the lens and the couple for this really pretty splash of color on the image. Those photos ended up being my favorites of the whole engagement session!
The sun had completely set by the time we got up on the bridge making for some moody dusk portraits. All together, we ended up with a beautiful set of images. Chase and Hannah were a lot of fun to work with- Hanah was a firecracker a lot like myself. They were totally my type of people!
