When I first sit down with a couple to talk about their wedding, I always ask them how he (or she!) proposed. Oscar put so many others to shame by asking Andrea to marry him in front of a waterfall in her home country of Honduras while their closest friends looked on. Of course she said yes (and I saw video to prove it!) and they set out to plan their New Orleans wedding. Much of her family is from Honduras and much of his is from Spain and also Honduras, so they decided to tie the knot around Christmas when their families will already be traveling to town. With their wedding a little more than a year away, we thought it would be great to take their engagement photos using the current Christmasy state of the city!
Oscar and Andrea both love Mid City (with their favorite watering hole being the ever-fun Finn McCool’s) and wanted to do their shoot there. I thought Bayou St John would be a great Mid City backdrop as well as seeking out some more seasonal locations. While our original plan of using Christmas lights didn’t pan out, we found our way into the Toy Soldier Christmas Tree Lot on Carrollton where they so graciously let us shoot (go grab your tree there, y’all. They’re super nice!). I must say, I love how those shots turned out! My favorite part of the shoot, though, was when I had them walk across the bridge on Bayou St John while I shot from far away. I caught the most tender moments while they were not worried about posing or smiling for the camera. It was incredibly sweet. These guys say “I do” December 17th, 2016.
